At Filmforum Höchst, Bändi played for the launch of the new Aki Kaurismäki film "The Other Side of Hope", which won the Silver Bear at the Berlinale 2017. We are very happy to have this band as a guest on our stage at the Fabrik. "The tango is the blues of the Finns," the veteran master of Finnish film Aki Kaurismäki is said to have once said. Bändi play Finnish tango. The Frankfurt ensemble dusts off the wonderfully sad earworms of Finnish tango from the 1930s to the 1960s. Bändi's music is the sonic equivalent of Kaurismäki's films: melancholic and cheerful, whimsical and with a good dose of black humour. Because in their songs all the hopeless dreamers, longing lovers and all the others suffering from love appear, just like in the films of the Finn. The band's repertoire is extremely versatile, ranging from famous tango songs like "Satumaa" (Fairyland), "Täysikuu" (Full Moon) and "Yön Kuningatar" (Queen of the Night) to tango classics like "Kohtalon Tango" or "Kotkan Ruusu". Bändi mix Finnish tango with bossa, rumba, jazz and country elements most skillfully, and their CD "Satumaa" is played on radio stations nationwide. The FAZ wrote about the band, which was also awarded the renowned "Creole World Music Prize Hesse" for its very own interpretation of Finnish tango, that it is "rousing, charming and a little melancholy". Bändi in the line-up: Kristina Debelius (voc, p), Tobias Frisch (voc, v, kazoo), Volker Denkel (g), Johannes Kramer (kb), Thomas Salzmann (dr, perc) and Martin Lejeune (pedal-steel-guitar). Guest: Andrea Emeritzy (clar). Text source and further information: PM Die Fabrik Frankfurt and https://www.die-fabrik-frankfurt.de
