It is hard to imagine a more solid young lawyer than the ambitious Paul Bratter. However, shortly after his marriage to whirlwind Corie, it's all over with the orderly life, as she has declared fun and pleasure to be her life's principle. After a stormy honeymoon in a hotel, real married life begins for both of them, as the newlyweds Bratter move into their first apartment together. Nothing would actually stand in the way of their happiness, were it not for the five floors without an elevator, missing furniture and a hole in the skylight. How is the young, extremely correct lawyer Paul supposed to prepare for his first case in court in this moving chaos? When, to make matters worse, Corie's mother Ethel bursts into the young married bliss and strange male neighbors show up at the apartment, it all turns into one of the funniest and most amusing boulevard comedies of all time - successfully filmed with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford - romantic, turbulent, timelessly topical and simply beautiful.
