The emergence of jazz in New Orleans and its first great maturation in the ballrooms of New York and Chicago led to a tremendous echo in Europe. Among other things, it led to the formation of the Barrelhouse Jazz Band in 1953. The band turned the echo into its own sound and concept; thus, its repertoire now ranges from works of old New Orleans to music in the style of today's Mardi Gras street bands.
An entirely original echo of swing jazz was heard 20 years ago by the ensemble "Echoes of Swing". The contemporary preparation of a varied repertoire and not least the humorous moderation and spontaneous stage presentation made the ensemble a celebrated attraction of many renowned jazz festivals soon after its foundation and established the ensemble at the top of the international jazz scene. This formation - unchanged for 20 years! - allows harmonic flexibility and offers freedom for agile, fine-nerved interplay. Without any museum nostalgia, the four musicians draw courageously from the huge fund of swinging jazz from Bix to Bop, from Getz to Gershwin, always searching for the hidden, the exquisite. The "Great American Songbook" and masterful recordings of forefather heroes form lump-free humus for the combo's creativity, which finds expression in stunning arrangements, virtuoso solo contributions and expressive original compositions.
