After(t)concert & At the bar with Barry Guy
Free admission
Barry Guy's composition cycle "The Blue Shroud" is a resonant homage to Picasso's painting "Guernica" and at the same time, in keeping with the music festival theme, a commentary on a political issue through the means of art. It recalls the covering of the famous painting (with which Picasso himself denounced the terror of war in 1937) by a blue curtain, in front of which Colin Powell announced the invasion of Iraq by troops of the USA and a "coalition of the willing" in the UN building in 2003. Guy's composition addresses war as a human experience that has found expression in music many times over the centuries. His composition works with new music techniques as well as baroque music and jazz improvisation, and a poem by Irish writer Kerry Hardie based on motifs from Picasso's painting.
