Freude, schöner Götterfunken! This music went around the world, inspiring poets, writers and visual artists, and sparking profound philosophical discussions: Ever since Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, with its choral finale based on Schiller's "Ode to Joy", was first heard in May 1824, it has been regarded as the benchmark of symphonic classical music, making it difficult for subsequent generations to achieve further progress in this genre. And while it may have served as a projection screen for numerous state powers since then, as a synthesis of Schiller's idealism and Beethoven's sound worlds, it is above all a radiant hymn of joy and an ambassador of global human solidarity. The central melody links the ninth symphony with Beethoven's glorious choral fantasy.
