After the successful debut tour in May and June 2016 with 10,000 spectators, BEETHOVEN! THE NEXT LEVEL will be back live on stage in 2017. The DEAG Classics AG production under the artistic direction of Christoph Hagel and Khaled Chaabi will go on tour together with classical dancer and dramaturg Yui Kawaguchi and an international dance ensemble. In 2017, the production tours Germany, Austria and Switzerland with a new stage set, revolutionary choreography, experimental sound and newly modified projections.
Music, dance, madness - these are the elements that are presented in the new urban dance show BEETHOVEN! THE NEXT LEVEL will be presented. The musical linchpin is the classic Ludwig van Beethoven: Beethoven's personal crises, abysses and flights of fancy "merge into a 70-minute psychogram of Ludwig van Beethoven" (Deutsche Welle TV). The loss of his sense of hearing is danced out, as is his accompanying loneliness and his longing for his "immortal beloved". Khaled Chaabi artistic director, choreographer and exceptional dancer embodies Ludwig van Beethoven and dances with "a great fury, as if he were taking on the whole world" (Berliner Morgenpost). The Japanese dancer and dramaturge Yui Kawaguchi forms the antithesis and calming pole to Chaabi and combines the world of break dance with the world of classical dance. Atmospheric projections and live interpretations of Beethoven's works by Christoph Hagel on the grand piano accompany the expressive choreographies.
The program has it all: In the first part of the show, the focus is on Beethoven's main piano work - the Apassionata. As the show progresses, the most famous symphonies - the Seventh and the Ninth - come to the fore and, in combination with newly composed beats, unfold a magic all of their own. A modern version of Freude schöner Götterfunken begins the transition into a spectacular finale that will captivate the audience.
Beethoven! The Next Level not only brings together dance styles such as krumping, popping, locking, b-boying, hip hop, modern dance, contemporary and classical dance, but also nations: The dancers come from more than six different nations and form their very own cosmopolitan world on stage.
