A-CAPPELLA OF THE FINEST
A choir like a fresh summer morning . Bird's Talk has become one of the best a cappella ensembles for jazz in Frankfurt. 15 singers provide an outstanding sound that immediately catches your attention. Be it bebop, swing, ballads or pop songs: the qualities of Bird's Talk catch the ear. Sophisticated arrangements, weird and beautiful harmonies and always surprising rhythms. Poetic German lyrics from the Birds' own pen additionally freshen up many a jazz standard.
Own compositions with pretension are a trademark of the choir director and her group.
In 2000, Regina Klein, a jazz singer and leader of several choirs, founded the ambitious project, fulfilling a long-held wish. Her birds have grown close to her heart over the years, which can be clearly felt in the atmospheric concerts. Not only in Frankfurt or Hesse the spark of Bird's Talk jumps over to its audience. "A declaration of love to vocally interpreted jazz. And a damn good one," was one review after a performance in Karlsruhe. Joint concerts with the Jazzchor Freiburg, the Danish choir Vocal Line or guest performances in South Tyrol or Serbia developed from the good reputation in the scene.
The repertoire of Bird's Talk includes about 50 standards and insider tips. Cole Porter comes just as much to honor as Duke Ellington or Miles Davis. But also titles by Stephen Stills, Annie Lennox and Peter Fox are interpreted in a rousing choral manner. By the way, the choir is named after one of the founders of bebop: saxophonist Charlie Parker, who was called "Bird" by his fellow musicians. With his whirring melody lines - reminiscent of birds chirping - plus the idiosyncratic harmonies of his pieces, he shaped and changed jazz.
For those who decide at short notice, tickets are also available at the box office (if not sold out). Five hours before the start of the concert, the online ticket sales will be closed.
