As part of the W-Festival On 15. May 1996, Birdy was born Jasmine van den Bogaerde, the great-niece of Dutch actor Dirk Bogarde († 78, "The Vicious Circle", "Death in Venice") in southern England. But the name on her passport was to be used exclusively by her teachers during her childhood: Because, as a baby, she opened her mouth as wide as a small bird with a big mouthful of cabbage, she was teasingly called Birdy by her parents. Friends and her other family members followed suit. At the tender age of seven, the daughter of a concert pianist finally got behind the piano, learned the art of the keys from her mother and tried her hand at songwriting for the first time at eight. She won the talent competition "Open Mic UK" in 2008 in two categories after presenting her self-composed track "Be free". Her big coup, however, came with the songs of other artists: For her debut album "Birdy", which was released in March 2011, the musician played the biggest songs of popular indie bands on the piano, sang to them herself and thus put her own stamp on them. With Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" Birdy even made it into the Top 20 of the British single charts, but in Germany the big breakthrough was to be a little longer in coming. It wasn't until Birdy performed the Cherry Ghost song "People help the People" together with finalist Isabell Schmidt at the 2012 finale of the casting show "The Voice of Germany" that she made an impact outside of her native Britain. As a result of that performance, Birdy reached number 3 in the German media control charts with the single, despite the song having been released the year before. The second point for a new album was favorable! So in September 2013 "Fire within" was released, which Birdy had largely written herself. 2016 saw the release of her third album, "Beautiful Lies"
