It all began in Scotland in 1954: Bob Ross saw the barren light of his frugal home with a single cry. 38 years later, the "Classic Clown" and his ensemble "Blechschaden" are standing in front of 50,000 screaming and applauding music fans in Taipei. In between was hard work and training to perfection. Bob Ross won the conducting and composition prize at the Royal College of Music in Glasgow, he was horn player at the State Theatres of Wiesbaden and Essen and was engaged at the Bayreuth Festival until he finally joined the Munich Philharmonic. Fascinated, inspired and animated by the musical and social tradition of Scottish brass bands, he found like-minded people among his Philharmonic colleagues to produce this unusual music. "And because I bought the sheet music, I also got to conduct", says Bob Ross. "When I make our audience laugh while I conduct, I get so out of breath that I can't still play along myself."
"Blechschaden" is the Munich Philharmonic's special program. In Europe, Asia, Israel and America, the extraordinary ensemble inspires its listeners, because it is not only the good tone of the eleven class musicians that decides the success. According to the motto "The eye listens too" the lively Bob Ross delivers surprising "interludes" which make listening even more amusing for the audience. No thought of boredom. "Blechschaden" and Bob Ross rely on variations, on whimsical interpretations, on entertainment and fun, on full steam ahead and velvety sentimentality, in short: on everything that makes unusual music seem even more unusual. These specifications demand perfection, and that comes naturally to the musicians - all in the employ of the Munich Philharmonic.
