Brenda Boykin was born in Oakland in the San Francisco Bay Area.
She gained her first significant musical experience as a solo singer at North Oakland Missionary Baptist Church. For the past 25 years, Brenda has enjoyed a never-ending successful career as a festival and club performer, studio musician, composer and workshop instructor. In the USA she is a popular "Jazz and American Roots Singer -Songwriter (in)" much acclaimed by music critics. Her musical background is "American Roots Music": jazz, soul, blues, funk and afro.
