"I shall find myself, the star tells me. Find me? Wouldn't I have to lose myself first?" Martin Walser's lines, which are at the centre of a concert project that is as touching as it is stirring, shake at the very foundations of human identity. In their program "Doch bin ich nirgend, ach! zu Haus" the Musicbanda Franui goes on a wander through the soul landscape of mankind and searches for nothing less than its essence and its meaning. With figures from his vast arsenal of all-too-human characters, puppeteer Nikolaus Habjan gives the wandering a melancholy face.

In a touching way Franui creates a musical bracket, which not only lovingly gives the classical songs a new sound and a unique sound, but also builds musical bridges to an ambiguous current existence between folklore, classical music, schmaltz, klezmer, musette and jazz. Music after Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Gustav Mahler, for example, as well as the lyrics of numerous wandering songs of the Romantic period form a resounding mosaic of the search for meaning that repeatedly concludes, "I wander strangely from land to land / So homeless, so unknown."
