ALL ONLY DREAMED?

We move in worlds of longings, desires, worries and fears. How much is dream, play, and how much is reality? "Song Books" consists of ninety solos for voice, Nos. 3-92. Nos. 1 and 2 and Nos. 93-97 are independent. Solos should be chosen to fill the performance time. Multiple performers should choose their performances independently, overlapping them as much as they can. The performance may also include simultaneous performances of other unspecified music.

Each solo is relevant or irrelevant in relation to the statement "We connect Satie to Thoreau." Solos may include songs or theater, with or without electronics, as indicated in the letters following the title (S= song, T= theater, E= with electronics). Many of the electronic pieces reference numbers that refer to devices for electronic manipulation.

A short version that can be used as a directory precedes the more detailed descriptions of the solos. I hope hereby not to infringe any copyrights.

Under individual pieces are parenthetical notes by me in italics, usually relating to the contents of the scores, some of which (*by all means) are amusing.

The first "book" contains solos 3-58, the second solos 59-92. The division into two books is a bit peculiar, as the second largely relates to (*and refers to) the first.

A few recordings of some solos exist, notably "The Year Begins To Be Ripe" (*"The year begins to be ripe"[not: to ripen]*). The vast majority of solos have never been recorded, even those that are not theatrical.
