What image should audiences have in mind for her 2018 collaboration with the Camerata Bern, Patricia Kopatchinskaja was asked when she was chosen to lead the ensemble. "Gardeners working together in a garden," was the successful violinist's spontaneous response, which is indicative of her approach to music-making. The garden that Patricia Kopatchinskaja and the Camerata are tilling in their inaugural concert at the Alte Oper is a broad field: for their programme of Marian settings, they traverse more than 1,000 years of music history, beginning with the present day and stopping off at works by Hildegard von Bingen, Joseph Haydn, Kurt Weill, Gustav Holst and Giacinto Scelsi, among others. The evening - another collaborative ploughing of the ground - has been developed by Patricia Kopatchinskaja together with soprano Anna Prohaska, who takes the vocal part.
