The idea was unusual, the realization brilliant. Storytelling by other - musical - means. Anecdotes with gruff riffs, sometimes subtle, sometimes thoughtful stories from rock history, told and played by Carl Carlton and his 1A band. Nfollowing last year's critically and audience acclaimed "Woodstock & Wonderland" concert series, the East Frisian native continues his "Songs & Stories" tour in March 2017. And what he started there, Talk'n'Roll, that mixture of anecdotes and memories, now goes into the second round. On 14 evenings - including tonight in Frankfurt - the German musician, guitarist and producer with an international agenda rocks the community as ›tour guide‹. The starting point for this trip is the oft-sung about »Tobacco Road«, actually Marvin's Alley, in the »working-class, slum area of East Durham, North Carolina«. At least that's what John D. Loudermilk had in mind when he wrote and published this classic in 1959. Tobacco Road, as we now know, led to Memphis, where a certain Elvis Aaron Presley combined black blues drama with white hillbilly sentiment to create what would become rock 'n' roll and permanently change the world. On the way to Graceland, Elvis' legendary residence, Carl Carlton stops at the cornerstones of rock history. With the help of songs and stories, the listener can follow the development of blues and jazz, experience the carefree cheerfulness of calypso or witness the emergence of reggae.
