Break a leg is still the least of the problems for this theatre troupe! When not only the props but also actors disappear and reappear at the most inopportune occasions, the technology fails and the stage set gradually collapses in on itself, then it is an evening of theatre of the finest English comedy kind.
Just about everything seems to have conspired against the performances Murder at Haversham Castle. And yet the student theatre company had just announced that for the first time they would be able to put on a play as it was meant to be. But it just isn't meant to be.
The crime story (actually) told in the play about a murder on the country estate of the ducal Haversham forms the background scenario for an increasingly dense web of mishaps, confusion and desperate attempts to save the players who, despite all adversities, shimmy through their premiere with admirable zeal according to the The Show Must Go On principle: The main thing is to keep your composure! And this zeal pulls you along: Who will be the first to fall out of character? How can this mistake still be ironed out? Who is still speaking lines and who is improvising at the top of their lungs? To observe the sheer chaos is simply great fun and not only theater connoisseurs impressively demonstrates the thin ice on which actors always walk.
