Spanning a period of almost 40 years, Chris Rea's career has always followed his own artistic vision. The singer with the smoky voice and world-class guitarist blazed a musical trail between rock, pop, Latin and his blues roots. More than 30 million records make him one of the most successful British rock protagonists. In October/November Chris Rea will present his "Road Songs for Lovers" on a European tour, which will also take him to Germany and Austria. From October 13 to November 3, he will make guest appearances in 13 cities with the songs from his eponymous new album and many classics. Although anchored in rock music, Chris Rea always felt more like an individualist. Musician and painter, blues aficionado and self-confessed motorsport nut, filmmaker and classically influenced composer, all these attributes apply to the versatile and likeable maverick. Now Chris Rea returns with an album of great rock ballads that once again reveals his best qualities: A unique voice and outstanding songwriting qualities. Fans can look forward to the new Road Songs as well as bestsellers like "On The Beach", "Let's Dance", "Julia", "Josephine", "Stainsby Girls", "Looking For The Summer", "Stony Road", "I Can Hear Your Heart Beat" and the legendary "Road to Hell'. The master of spare gestures and fewer words always knew how to persuade beyond mainstream and fashionable trends. The "wonderful songwriter and gifted blues singer" (FAZ) from the English industrial town of Middlesbrough met with particular resonance in German-speaking countries. Here he was already noticed in the eighties, before he gained international acceptance with albums like "Shamrock Diaries", "Dancing With Strangers" and "Road to Hell". With "King Of The Beach" Chris Rea struck a refined-elegant direction, which also characterized "Auberge", "God's Great Banana Skin" and "Espresso Logic". The CDs "Stony Road", "The Blue Jukebox", "Blue Guitars" or "The Return Of The Fabulous Hofner Bluenotes" revealed a different spectrum. They were praised as "great moments of blues rock". He broke new ground with the "Santo Spirito Project", consisting of three CDs and two films, which he wrote and directed himself. Chris Rea draws strength and inspiration from his private life, a harmonious family life. "I've never been a rock or pop star in the traditional sense," the performer confesses. "And all the illnesses have given me the chance to do what I've always wanted to do with music, to focus on what I'm really interested in!" Now the passion has gripped Chris Rea again and he's returning his song canon to where he feels the audience response most directly, on stage.
