100 letters and postcards from six decades of the artist's life bear witness to Christoph Meckel's (born 1935) love of artistic play with language and image in the lavishly designed volume bildpost (Gutleut Verlag). In it, the eminent author and artist, who received the Johann Peter Hebel Prize on May 10, 2018, provides very personal insights into that area of his great oeuvre that has so far remained hidden from public view.
It contains facsimiles of original letters to friends and acquaintances, in which the written word and drawn image are often symbolically reflected in one another. Supplemented by transcriptions of the calligraphic script, the volume with its colour and black-and-white drawings proves to be a valuable contemporary witness of a great poet's and artist's life.
