Can one escape one's own history? Christopher Kloeble, who received the Jürgen Ponto Foundation Prize for Literature for his debut in 2008, tells sensitively more than a family story in his third novel "The Immortal Family Salt". The novel, published by dtv, depicts in multiple perspectives and across generations how the individual family members deal with their own experiences and their family's past, and how this shapes the present in different times. His family saga unfolds under the heavy shadows of German history from the beginning of World War I to reunification, and it's not just the novel's characters who have to chew on it.
