The exceptional African talents from "Circus Mother Africa" (ent)lead their audience in 2019/2020 to one of the largest townships in South Africa: "Khayelitsha". The township show by Winston Ruddle and Hubert Schober (among others "Africa! Africa!") has already thrilled over 200,000 people from London to Paris, from Helsinki to New York since 2014. From 26 December 2019 to 16 February 2020, the most successful production of "Circus Mother Africa" will also be visiting Germany, Austria and Switzerland on its European tour. Fifteen years ago Winston Ruddle (from Zimbabwe, Africa) and Hubert Schober (from Weiden, Germany) founded the "Circus Mother Afrika". Since then, the two have been producing spectacular themed shows and organizing worldwide tours with exclusively African artists - and have been successful from Australia to Europe to the USA. Already in 2003 Ruddle supported André Heller in his search for artists for the show "Afrika! Africa!" and founded his own circus school in Tanzania. In 2018 and 2019, Schober and Ruddle, together with director Ulrich Thon, were part of the creative team for the new "Afrika! Africa!" tour. Back in 2014, the trio created the hit show "Khayelitsha - my home".
"Khayelitsha" (translated "our new home") is the name of one of South Africa's largest townships, located about thirty kilometers outside Cape Town. It is estimated that around two million people of different origins and religions live here in a very confined space. In the unusual stage setting of small huts and stalls made of corrugated iron, wood or cardboard, between street vendors and jugglers, the "New Stories from Khayelitsha 2020" show a - admittedly very unusual - day in the township.
