Tango Ballet .Tonight's program is all about the classical music of South America, portraying three of the most important composers of the 20th century, Alberto Ginastera, Heiter Villa-Lobos and Astor Piazzolla.Century, whose compositions for string quartet could not be more different.
The compositional development of the Brazilian Villa-Lobos(1887-1959) can be well traced in his 17 string quartets, the first works of which still reveal late Romantic traits, while the middle and late works show a clear expansion of tonality to the point of atonality.
Ginastera (1916-1983), along with Astor Piazzolla Argentina's most important composer of the 20th century. He grew up at a time when A. Schoenberg's dodecaphony was already established, and in his music he combined traditional rhythms of Argentine folklore with the harmonics of modern classical music, at times recalling the music of Béla Bartók in his compositions for string quartet.
The finale is the famous Tango Ballet by Piazzolla (1921-1992), probably the best-known South American composer.
He, too, was inspired by the classical music of his time, especially by compositions by Stravinsky and Bartók, which led Piazzolla to develop Tango Argentino from pure dance music into Tango Nuevo, a music that was not primarily for dancing but for listening.
This evening's program will be dedicated to these three innovative composers. One thing, however, is common to all three works - the infinitely yearning melancholy! Text source and further information about this event: https://www.frankfurter-buergerstiftung.de/node/2622
