The Contrast Trio has changed creatively and realigned its focus. More than ever, it's about an individual, transparent sound. It is the bracket for filigree to powerful melodies, repetitive miniatures, subtle electronic effects and grooves -of course with those exciting improvisations for which the band has been known for years.
Yuriy Sych came from Western Ukraine in 2003 and soon found himself between Frankfurt and Mannheim in the middle of a creative jazz scene. British-German double bassist Timothy Roth studied in Amsterdam with Peter Erskine and Larry Grenadier, among others. Drummer Martin Standke honed his rhythmic and dynamic sophistication at colleges in Frankfurt and Cologne and is now one of the most sought-after drummers on Frankfurt's young jazz scene.
Frankfurt percussionist and drummer Florian Dreßler expands the trio. At the latest since study visits in Cuba and the USA he is an intimate connoisseur of Latin American percussion and plays with "Nachttierhaus", "The OhOhOhs" as well as the Schoyfler Project, among others.
