Similarly to the book, depictions of seduction, revenge and human abysses are also found in music. The love relationships between man and woman without cultural and religious barriers and without regard to class range in their emotional diversity from tragedy to sparkling comedy and can be found in all genres of music: in classical masterpieces by composers such as Verdi, Puccini, Saint-Saens and Wagner, to musicals and Italo-pop - in other words, in "E- and U-Musik".
This stylistically contrasting concert program evokes the revolutionary spirit of the novel.
Keith Ikaia-Purdy, tenor, and Marina Russmann, soprano, embody the lovers on this evening.
Called "one of the brightest stars in the tenor sky" by the newspaper Die Welt", Keith Ikaia-Purdy started out in Wiesbaden and has been a star on the world's opera and concert stages for more than 25 years (The MET, La Scala, Covent Garden, Carnegie Hall, the Deutsche Oper and "Opera unter den Linden" Berlin, Munich, Florence, Stockholm, Copenhagen, the Semperoper and the Vienna State Opera).
Spinto soprano Marina Russmann, born in Russia and trained in Germany and Italy, is already a leading light on the Central European concert and opera scene. The young singer made her debut at the State Theatres of Wiesbaden and Mainz, as well as at the "Nibelungen Festival" in Worms and the Chamber Opera in Rheinsberg. Regular concert appearances at the Wiesbaden Kurhaus, among other venues, round out her artistic activities.
Keith Ikaia-Purdy and Marina Russmann complement each other - as audiences of "Opera et Cetera", an ensemble founded five years ago by Keith lkaia-Purdy, already know, and with which the two artists have given more than 100 concerts together. The singers will be accompanied by a renowned salon orchestra, under the musical direction of a renowned pianist/conductor.
