In the overheated, morbid atmosphere of the Rococo, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont play their diabolical game. The cold seducer Valmont is supposed to beguile the virtuous Madame de Tourvel, and in the process, without realizing it, falls in love for the first time in his life. Deeper and deeper the two schemers become entangled in the web of their own game, until finally they themselves become figures in their own conspiracy.
Full of costumes and make-up, rapier fighting and spinet music, this splendid arc of rococo imagery unfolds.
