The love of his life? That may be an exaggeration. Nevertheless, Daniel Hope readily admits that he became enthusiastic about the Zurich Chamber Orchestra (ZKO) as a child. Back then, when he was a regular guest in Gstaad with his mother, Yehudi Menuhin's manager, and listened to the orchestra. "It's an affair of the heart," formulates the violinist, who has found a reliable base in Zurich despite all the hustle and bustle. Hope has been music director of the ZKO since 2016. "What always overwhelms me is its sound," Hope enthuses. It is extremely flexible, from rich to reduced. "There are extremely talented thoroughbred musicians playing at the ZKO, and they just know how to do it." Hope likes that, since he himself is more artistically versatile than any other violinist of his generation. "Journey to Mozart" is the title of the latest album by Hope and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. In concert, they go beyond that, exploring the paths from Mozart to Beethoven.
