On May 4, Darmstadt's city centre will once again be "under power": at the late-night shopping event "Darmstadt under power", visitors can stroll through the pedestrian zone and shops in a relaxed manner until 10 pm. At the same time
they will experience fascinating stilt-walking acts, musicians and other, energetic actions that will turn night into day. "Visitors can expect an evening full of high voltage, where they can shop leisurely and enjoy the May evening," says City Manager Anke Jansen. At
22 clock, the closing highlight will take place on the market square.
The tradition to which the event title "Darmstadt unter Strom" alludes is made clear by a look at the beginnings of energy supply in Darmstadt: built in 1888/89, the Centralstation in the City Carree was one of the first electricity plants in Germany. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of today's City Carree, "Darmstadt unter Strom" was celebrated for the first time in 2007
. ENTEGA has supported the event since 2007 and will supply the event with green electricity again this year. In addition, the company will be on site with its own stand at the marketplace for customers and will provide information on the topics
green electricity, climate-neutral natural gas, energy efficiency and electromobility.
The pedestrian zone, Ludwigsplatz and Marktplatz will be "played" visually and musically by luminous walk acts and LED jugglers in the evening. Music and walk acts will provide electrifying entertainment during the shopping spree. Many monuments and buildings in Darmstadt's city centre will be illuminated and thus contribute to the special atmosphere on this evening from 6 pm.
While the adults shop or enjoy Darmstadt's outdoor gastronomy, the little ones conquer the night playground on the historic market square: starting at 6 p.m., positive energy is released here, and parents can recharge their batteries in the cafés surrounding the night playground. The Night Playground closes at 9.15pm with its own little closing highlight especially for all the little visitors.
A spectacular combination of music, LED performance and laser effects will form the closing highlight on the market square. A fascinating laser show with live performance and background music forms the highlight of the evening and sets the Darmstadt city center still
