Theater Thikwa (D)
Is that a human landing on earth? No, a spaceship in human form. Its alien occupants are looking for a metal sphere that has fallen from space and is needed to save the home planet from an energy crisis. Trash?! The Eddie Murphy vehicle from which this spectacle is inspired ended up winning multiple Golden Raspberries - the Oscars for bad movies. But beware: as with Anne Tismer's previous work with Thikwa, this Dadaist interpretation over-forms the material by taking it literally, re-interrogating it for relevance. The themes of strangeness, exclusion and approach to the other(s) are treated in a whimsical and very funny way. Is a human being different from a machine? What is a feeling and how does one have to deal with it? It is not for nothing that Captain Dave animates his crew to imitate interesting human characteristics. After examining two surrealist arthouse films by Luis Buñuel ("The Plastic Ghost of Freedom," Grenzenlos Kultur 2012, and "The Discreet Swarm of the Bourgeoisie," Berlin 2014), Anne Tismer and Theater Thikwa reinvent a Hollywood comedy this time. Quirky, funny and with a lot of dancing.
