Formed in the UK of the early 1980s (an exact date has not survived; however, it is assumed that the band formed in 1982), the quite certainly not only because of their band name to be called "komplett durchgeknallt" troupe belongs to the first wave of the genre, which had been launched at that time shortly before by The Meteors and which stirs together punk rock with rockabilly, a dash of country music and more than a little bit of horror show. When the record company Nervous Records released the compilation "Hells Bent On Rocking" in 1984, it featured some new names alongside already well-known formations like Restless, The Sharks and The Deltas - for example Demented Are Go, who were represented by the tracks "One Sharp Knife" and "Rubber Rock". It will soon become apparent that this previously unknown psychobilly band is more than just a flash in the pan, as their debut album "In Sickness and In Health", released in 1986, can already be considered a real classic! It opens with "Be Bob A Lula", a cover version of the Rock'n'Roll song by Gene Vincent, but Demented Are Go had given it a much more "sexually explicit" lyric. And also the original compositions like "PVC Chair" and "Busted Hymen" made clear that Demented Are Go are clearly more influenced by punk rock than many of their contemporaries (in contrast to them Demented Are Go also play at punk festivals from the beginning), which is why their music is often referred to as "Punkabilly" or "Pervobilly" - the latter because their lyrics often feature rubber sex, psychopaths and perverts.
