A dialogue that could hardly be more topical is the focus of Jordi Savall's second concert in an evening. "The Arab and Jewish worlds seem to have forgotten their former fruitful kinship, the Muslim Orient and the West of Christian tradition to have become entangled in a hopeless confrontation," analyzes the French-Lebanese writer Amin Maalouf with regard to Savall's program, and wishes that, in addition to cultures and religions, above all souls enter into a reconciliatory exchange. Savall's idea of restoring the lost closeness of the cultures of the Occident and the Orient through music makes a contribution to this. Astonishing parallels break through in a program that travels from West to East without any barriers and shows what musical treasures can come to light when a Eurocentric way of thinking is replaced by a serious engagement with other cultures.
