DISCO 2000? Sounds like a 2000s party to me. But no, no Backstreet boys, Spice brats, Eurodance &Trashpop for guaranteed ear bleeding! Instead boy bands like Blur, Oasis, Verve or one hit wonders like Cornershop & Co and PSYCHO JONES on the turntables. Nice.
The story behind it: Psycho's ex had succumbed to Spanish playboys on holiday in Valencia and out of spite he started DJing in Mainz. The first party series was called DISCO 2000 - The Return of Psycho-Jones. Beside Britpop they played Hamburger Schule, Schwedenpop, Indie, Wave, Punk, 60s Garage, Beat & Soul, Yeye, Chansons, Freakbeat, Schlager together with Trash like Helge Schneider, Andreas Dorau, Stereo Total, various Electropop and Bigbeat. For the techno disciples it was too rocky, for the leather vest rockers too soft, for the indie squirrel kids too poppy, for the chart poppers too alternative & for the 60s freaks too modern. So the concept was doomed to fail? Sadly, no. Let's see what BRITPOP.PSYCHO cook up today and celebrate the exit from Brexit with them.
