Disillusion's 2004 debut "Back To Times Of Splendor" was already an instant classic of progressive melodic death metal, but the Leipzigers went one better two years later with their rigorously innovative sophomore album "Gloria", which went from exploring the genre's boundaries to fully exploding them. But the glory years of "one of the metal underground's best-kept secrets"(Blabbermouth) were still to come.
2016 saw Disillusion return from a nearly decade-long hiatus with the single "Alea". The sign of life was met with an overwhelming response. The fans remained loyal to the band and made possible through crowdfunding what only a few niche artists are granted: Mastermind Andy Schmidt was able to focus on songwriting and recording the third album full-time for almost two years without having to interrupt his work for bread jobs. The fact that this record is built on the foundation of ongoing, unconditional and trusting fan support is hard to overestimate in its importance.
"The Liberation" is the result of Andy Schmidt's creative Herculean effort of countless - sleepless - hours of writing and producing. The first longplayer, 13 years after "Gloria", but with its rousing, passionate, driving Prog Metal stylistically and content seamlessly following "Back To Times Of Splendor". However, with exactly the 15 years more of life experience of both the protagonist and his creator. "The Liberation" is in the literal sense a testimony and summit of a human development. An interplay of heavy metal thunderstorms and moments of pure euphoria as well as thoughtfulness, which sends us again on the proverbial emotional roller coaster ride we have been longing for so long now.
