Pünktchen's parents have so little time that their daughter, whose real name is Luise Pogge, has to spend most of her time with the kind-hearted housekeeper Berta, her nanny Fräulein Andacht or herself. Anton's mother is always there for her son, but now she is sick in bed and has so little money that Anton secretly sells matches and shoelaces at night. But the one who helps him is none other than Pünktchen, because the two of them are the best of friends. And that's great luck - especially when it turns out that Miss Andacht's lover, of all people, wants to break into the Pogges' house. Because now courage, imagination and energy are called for, and Pünktchen and Anton seem to be brimming with them! In the end, even the parents of the two are to get to know each other, who would probably never have met if their children hadn't been so close.
Even today, when the gap between rich and poor is widening, this detective story, which focuses on the special friendship of Pünktchen and Anton, unfolds utopian radiance for children and adults alike.
