Every band has its story, but none sounds nearly like that of Dudu Tassa & The Kuwaitis. Singer and guitarist Tassa is one of Israel's leading rock stars, having played such major festivals as SXSW in Austin, Texas, the Sziget Festival in Hungary, the WOMEX Festival in Santiago de Compostela and the Coachella Festival in California. In addition, cult band Radiohead invited Dudu Tassa & The Kuwaitis in 2017 to support them on their USA tour. This increased their fame outside of their homeland, where Tassa had been making records since the age of 13 and had already developed his own style before launching The Kuwaitis in 2011. The formation of the group resulted from researching the history of his Iraqi Jewish family. So he also delved deeper and deeper into the music of his grandfather and great uncle's Al-Kuwaiti Brothers, who were very popular in the Arab world between the 1930s and 1950s. Their music was later banned by Saddam Hussein in Iraq when the regime realized that Daoud and Saleh Al-Kuwait were Jews. From countless recordings, Dudu Tassa picked out pieces that he thought he could modernize. Thus was born Iraq'n'Roll as a popular form of Arabic music. Dudu incorporates the box zither qanun, violin and cello into his rock band to create a unique style that can be described as mighty groovy or rocking rough, earthy, subtly edgy in an optimal way, sporadically even psychedelic-hallucinogenic Text source and more information about this event: https://www.brotfabrik.de/index.php?id=25&month=3&year=2019
