Both are considered to be great discoveries of the young improvising scene: the Slovenian pianist Kaja Draksler and the Portuguese trumpeter Susana Santos Silva. The two musicians met a few years ago in the "European Movement Jazz Orchestra". This orchestra, initiated by the German Music Council, unites young European jazz musicians to form an experimental body of sound with a variety of musical influences.
Kaja Draksler is in her early 30s and began playing the piano at an early age. She first studied in Ljubljana before moving to the Netherlands. From Amsterdam Draksler now unfolds her diverse activities, in the very open and innovative music scene of the Dutch capital she feels inspired and respected. Among other things, her solo concerts, in which the pianist repeatedly dives into the interior of her grand piano, passionately researching new sounds there as well, cause a sensation. She also works very successfully in a trio with Christian Lillinger and Petter Eldh, maintains her own octet and, in her own words, has found a musical sister in spirit in Susana Santos Silva. Their joint duo CD, "This Love," displays an intimacy and intensity that is second to none.
