Whether on international opera stages, for the ensemble choreographies of Johann Kresnik or in her own performances and installations, Swiss theatre artist Penelope Wehrli creates experimental arrangements with her spatial and event concepts that are as sensual as they are multi-perspectival. For "Eadweardʼs Ear", Wehrli and her team were inspired by Eadweard Muybridge's early photo series, in which he made human movement sequences visible in detail for the first time. Via an electronic sensor interface, the Berlin dance company Rubato and a virtuoso instrumental quartet consisting of Alejandra Cardenas (electric guitar), Stephanie Hupperich (bassoon), Alexander Nickmann (percussion) and Gerriet K. Sharma (composition) meet in a highly differentiated spatial composition. In the performance, which lasts several hours, a dialogical play between movement and sound impulses forms a completely unique choreographic-musical aesthetic.
