The Opelvillen celebrate Easter and welcome all visitors to do so.
The idyllic location of the villa ensemble on the Main River offers an ideal starting point for families and friends to take the traditional Easter walk along the river, which can be rounded off with a visit to the listed buildings and the current exhibition.
On Easter Sunday, April 21 and Easter Monday, April 22, 2019, the exhibition house invites visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with an extended educational program to discover the current exhibition Antanas Sutkus. Photographs. For children, the free exhibition companion is available, which encourages investigation, discovery and puzzles and comes up with special search games for Easter.
In child-friendly templates can be painted and Easter motifs can be added. Of course, the results may be taken home. In addition, on both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, there will be the opportunity to be guided through the exhibition of the Lithuanian photographer Antanas Sutkus in an entertaining way. Special tours of the current show will take place at 3 and 4 p.m. on both holidays.
No prior registration is required for the Easter tours.
Currently, Opelvillen pays tribute to Lithuania's most famous photographer Antanas Sutkus.
Born in 1939 in Kluoniškiai near Kaunas, Sutkus began photographing the people of his native Lithuania in the 1950s. He is one of the great humanist photographers of Europe. Sutkus did not follow art-political doctrines of Soviet rule, and so he was able to publish many of his photographs only after 1990.
According to Sutkus, one should love not only people, but above all one's homeland: one's own family, the graves of one's ancestors, sharing joy and sorrow together with people. You have to love a person and if you lose the ability to love that person, you should stop taking pictures, he said.
