Tens of thousands of rose bushes blossom throughout Eltville every year in late spring. 350 different varieties of the queen of flowers are at home here and the town of Eltville with its romantic electoral castle and the winding old town on the banks of the Rhine is then always transformed into a breathtaking sea of blossoms with rushing colors and fragrances. All this and much more is the focus of the Eltville Rose Days, which take place every year on the first weekend in June in the sparkling wine and rose town. As diverse as the roses in the gardens of the castle and on the Rhine is the colourful festival programme, which is offered around the queen of flowers. The tradesmen will be offering specialities, food and delicious delicacies all about the rose on the open weekend. These range from rose oils, rose cocktails and perfumes to jellies, specialist literature on roses and the "Eltviller Rosentörtchen". The entire old town is transformed into a huge fairground with tables and benches to linger and feast.
In addition, street performers with music, juggling and magic arts do funny mischief and at stalls there is much to marvel and look at. There will be live music acts on a large festival stage in the city centre and theatre performances for the younger guests. The large plant market in the historic castle courtyard and the matching art exhibitions in the gallery in the castle tower are also particularly popular. In addition, the tour guides and city gardeners invite you to guided tours through the old town and the rose gardens and present many historic rose species and rarities.
