The Meretrio with exquisite Brazilian jazz. The band was launched in 2004 in Sao Paulo with one goal in mind: to explore the diverse range of Brazilian popular music. Since its inception, however, the group has continued to expand its creative work, blending Brazilian rhythms with elements of jazz and chamber music. Drawing from other trios past and present, Meretrio continues to evolve its music, but never without losing a sense of humor, creativity, and joy in the music.
In2018, Meretrio embarks on a new project, exploring the possibilities of modern technology for music. The guiding question is whether it is possible to layer the sound of trombone and guitar using electronic devices to achieve a sonic richness that exceeds the usual possibilities of the jazz trio (guitar, bass and drums). The motivation behind this experiment is to compose a new kind of music that is different in timbre from the usual sound of the meretrio. Using a loop station and digital effects, melodies and harmonies can be combined in "real time". The result is entirely new textures and musical sounds.
