The exhibition will present a selection of the artist's central works as well as works made explicitly for the Frankfurter Kunstverein. With his sculptures, films and long-term projects, Eric van Hove combines conceptual art, socio-political investigations, activism and approaches to alternative economics. His work focuses on questions concerning the transformation of economic processes and the duality between global economy and local production, as well as craft and industrial manufacturing.
In addition to the presentation of large-scale exhibits, one of the exhibition rooms will be transformed into a functional workshop accessible to all. Here Eric van Hove and his collaborators, ten mechanics and artisans from various fields, will temporarily integrate the studio from Marrakech into the rooms of the Kunstverein to work on the current project "Mahjouba II". This is a handcrafted electric motorcycle that is to be further developed and built in collaboration with Frankfurt experts and passionates from the fields of craftsmanship, mechanical engineering and design. The earlier prototype "Mahjouba I" will be on display as an exhibit in the exhibition.
Eric van Hove invents forms of production and product development using both traditional (art) craft skills and digital technologies. The materials, raw materials and new techniques used, such as 3D printing and solar energy, can thus support local and alternative economies. The open and collectively run workshop is an invitation to the citizens and visitors of the Frankfurter Kunstverein to actively participate in the working process taking place there.
