For his story L'Ordre du jour has Éric Vuillard last year received the most important French literary prize, the Prix Goncourt. His work has now been published in German translation by Matthes & Seitz under the title Die Tagesordnung. It is again a politico-historically grounded narrative by the Lyon-born author. Two historical moments are at the heart of the narrative, the first being Adolf Hitler's secret meeting of 23 February 1933 with the main German industrialists to finance the forthcoming electoral campaign of March 1933, the second being the Anschluss of Austria in 1938. Vuillard traces the pettiness and indecisiveness of individuals, exposes the willfulness and self-centeredness of the actors.
Moderated by Dr. Michael Hohmann.
German speaker: Stéphane Bittoun (director and actor). Text source and further information about this event: http://www.romanfabrik.de/programm/detailansicht/calendar/2018/04/25/event/tx_cal_phpicalendar/eric-vuillard/
