"The future will once prove me right. Love in a girl's life is mostly deception, play of fantasy." (Shilovsky after Pushkin. Onegin) Eugen Onegin is an outsider. To defend himself against the boredom and banality of his surroundings, he has built a wall of irony and cynicism around himself. But in doing so, he loses not only his best friend, but also the love of his life, Tatyana. Years later, Tatyana and Onegin meet again at a ball - she at Prince Gremin's side, he alone and still in love with her. About "Eugen Onegin" Tchaikovsky wrote: "Yes, this opera has no future." But since its premiere in Moscow in 1879, it has been proved otherwise: "Eugen Onegin" is Tchaikovsky's big hit and the most beautiful, most touching and most performed Russian opera. Between Verdi and Wagner, between dramatic and epic design, it opens up a fascinating, independent sphere of expression to this day. A production of the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden. In exchange, Wiesbaden will host the production "Carmen" directed by Sandra Leupold.
