In these turbulent times, touring with an international band is a special challenge. This quintet unites musicians from three European countries with an American master soloist to present swinging "New York Jazz" to the audience.

John Marshall has been one of the most internationally renowned jazz trumpeters for decades. Marshall was active on the New York jazz scene beginning in 1971, playing with Benny Goodman, Ornette Coleman, Buddy Rich, Dizzy Gillespie, Buck Clayton, Mario Bauzá and the Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. He also led the quintet Bopera House between 1987 and 1991, and was principal trumpet of the WDR Big Band Cologne from 1992 to 2017. In addition, he continues to work worldwide with his own groups, including a quintet with Ferdinand Povel, Grant Stewart or Chris Byars. He can also be heard on recordings by Sarah Jane Morris, Supernova, Rein de Graaff, Herb Geller, Dizzy Gillespie, Phil Collins, Bernard Purdie and Lena Bloch.

In this quintet, Marshall is joined by Thomas Ibanez of France, one of Europe's promising young saxophonists. Ibanez was already heard together with his idol Grant Stewart on the Jazzkeller stage last year and is now looking forward to meeting Marshall.

The rhythm section consists of outstanding musicians from the European scene.

Thilo Wagner is one of the most internationally successful German pianists. He started playing the piano at the age of 5 and founded his first trio at the age of 18. In 1987 he completed his music studies and moved first in the Frankfurt jazz scene, where he played among others with Gustl Mayer. In 1990 he toured with Scott Hamilton, then went on tour with Benny Waters, Clark Terry, Randy Sandke or Art Farmer. Since 1994 he has been a member of Emil Mangelsdorff's quartet. He has recorded more than 70 albums. He has also performed with Jim Hall and Slide Hampton. Concert tours have taken him all over Europe, USA and Canada.

Southern French bassist Nicola Sabato is influenced by Ray Brown and is considered a supremely swinging and sensitive accompanist. He has worked for 20 years at the most important European festivals with musicians such as Harry Allen, Jeff Hamilton, Kirk Lightsey, Dado Moroni and many others.

Austrian drummer Bernd Reiter studied in Graz and New York and now lives in Paris after several years in Munich. He was a prize-winner at the Hans Koller Prize (Austrian Jazz Prize) in 2006 and has accompanied many international jazz greats such as Harold Mabern, Kirk Lightsey, Don Menza, Steve Grossman, Eric Alexander, Claudio Roditi and many more.

This quintet offers intoxicatingly energetic and swinging music at the very highest level, performed with professionalism and lots of enthusiasm in equal measure, simply "Jazz at its Best"!!!
