For over 100,000 years, humanity has connected with animals in ways that have stripped them of their wildness. Animals have played a large part in the humanization of the ape. They belong to man and man to them. In recent decades, in an unprecedented process of industrialization, the animals on whose backs culture is built have been turned into means of production and products. They have been tucked away behind the walls of large stables. Re-breeding, trimming and cutting, adaptation to production conditions are the order of the day, instead of adapting the way animals are kept. In his book "Deadly Friendship", award-winning journalist and scientific author Florian Schwinn (HR 2 Kultur/Der Tag) traces the cultural history of the inseparable relationship between humans and their farm animals. With the author, representatives of BUND Hessen and practitioners of animal-friendly agriculture will discuss an urgently needed agricultural turnaround and encouraging alternatives to industrialized animal husbandry.
