No holding back, no justification! The word "FAKA" means "to occupy" or "to penetrate" in Zulu, and that's exactly what Desire Marea and Fela Gucci are up to: With art performances, housy gqom beats and their wild party series "Cunty Power", which they started in Johannesburg and Cape Town, they advocate for the visibility of the whole range of Black, queer identity. Internationally, at Berghain, the Berlin Biennale, the CTM Festival or soon the MELT Festival, the duo makes a name for themselves especially on stage with psychedelic African House performances. Besides the obvious role model Fela Kuti, FAKA orientate themselves on the vibes of South African pop icons like Boom Shaka and Brenda Fassie. While they go for elaborate looks and designer stuff in their music videos, it's wigs and lots of skin at their live performances. Because the outfit has to withstand one thing above all else: intense physical activity, let's party!
