Well, valued audience, that's where it all started. It happened in 2001, when a swashbuckling troupe approached the Stalburg Theatre and coveted the opportunity to stage two episodes of The Hesselbach Family. In the baggage they had a then already young director named Manfred Roth and lots and lots of fluff. The rest is history.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Stalburg Theater, the ensemble decided to perform all three Hesselbach episodes once again, just the "Ring der Hesselbachs". It begins, of course, with part one, the legendary "Röhrenden Hirsch". Judith von Sternburg wrote in the Frankfurter Rundschau of October 6, 2001: "Before floral wallpaper director Manfred Roth lets blithely but also comfortably babble away.

Steffen Schwarz and Harald Uhrig (both relatively aged under Jörg Schönberg's hands) have adapted fabulously to each other in their long marriage, Alison Rippier and Thomas Rausch rebel in a bourgeois setting. Thomas Hartmann is the "rest of the family" and has hit the jackpot as lamenting cousin Erna. Erna talks the Hesselbachs to the wall to it belongs what, only because she catches her breath at the correct, namely wrong places and makes no point. One remembers that one knew such people in former times. Terrible people who must still be somewhere, and what would they say about such a performance, and actually one can feel sorry for them. It adds a thoughtful note to the evening. In between, vivid images ("The roaring stag is presented", "The Hesselbachs are about to beat Erna to death with the roaring stag") provide welcome retarding moments."

A production of the Stalburg Theater in cooperation with the Hessischer Rundfunk
