Once mere background music for pictures, the genre of "film music" reaches an exceedingly large audience in concert halls today. The recipe is effective: film music mobilizes the full power of an orchestral sound body, it evokes vivid images and overwhelms emotionally.
The Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, schooled in classical and serious music for decades, is therefore always happy to allow itself an excursion into this realm of cinematic symphonies. "Fantastic Worlds" presents highlights especially of epic film music - including suites and medleys from "Ben Hur" and "Lawrence of Arabia", from "Gladiator" and "Caribbean Pirates", from "Star Wars", "Game of Thrones" and "Lord of the Rings".
This evening is guided and rounded out by expert moderation and the euphony of a classical soprano.
