This crew probably needs no introduction to anyone. Fat Freddy's Drop have grown over the years into a stage monster that no one who loves live, laid-back dance sound can escape. No wonder: the Freddy's love Europe, too - the food, the culture, Whanau (the family) and especially the European audience. Since the groovemonsters mixed reverb and delay, horns, a fat and funky rhythm section and DJ, soul, reggae, dub, jazz, hip-hop beats and half a dozen other danceable styles on their debut record "Based On A True Story" almost 15 years ago, the guys have stood for total relaxation - and fabulous concert experiences. Jazzy harmonies meet a rhythm section that can be just as funky as it can switch to a heavy blues stomp or bang out a fat hip-hop beat in the next moment. Not to mention, of course, the cool variation of roots and dub reggae that makes up much of the groove. The absolutely nifty rap and soulful vocal interludes from Joe Dukie add the maraschino cherry on top of the sound. Fat Freddy's Drop records are laid-back masterpieces that are great for chilling out to without slipping into non-committal ambient fusion nu-jazz blandness, while at concerts they unpack their P-Funk quality and improvisationally get everything out of their tracks. Currently, the Freddys are preparing their next album, and in usual "Freddy style," there's no album name or release date. Just a promise from the band to release the album in time for the start of the tour in November 2019.
