Making Elliot strong - that's the idea Sonja Bach, part-time Group Fitness and Pilates instructor, had together with trainer and Elliot's KiTa educator Yara Bitterwolf.
On Sunday, September 29, the benefit "Fit for Elliot" will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Neue Stadthalle Langen. For the moderation Sonja Bach could win presenter and publicist Jane Uhlig.
For this, different trainers offer 30-minute sports classes each: Strong by Zumba (Yara Bitterfeld), Tabata (Vincenzo Verdura), Zumba (Jasmin Hantes, Marie and Marcel), Thai Bo (Katharina Morlang), Yoga (Ramona Veras De Sigas), Pilates (Sonja Bach) and Stretching-Mental (Jane Uhlig). Also on hand will be nutritionist Ramiro Vaca Schommarzt, who will provide tips on healthy eating using clear examples.
Participants need motivation - and must bring their own sleeping mat. No special sports experience is required, and the classes are for all ages. Childcare is provided for children who do not want to participate.
Sonja Bach can't get the fate of the Peiz family and the fact that a little human life comes with a price tag out of her head: the soon to be five-year-old Elliot from Erzhausen suffers from a severe nerve cancer. His only chance for a cure is a therapy in New York, USA, which costs an enormous sum of 1.4 million dollars (=1,269,520
Happily, Sonja Bach and her friend came up with the idea for the charity fitness event. "The passion for sports connects many people," Bach said. Here, she said, people have the opportunity to do something good for themselves and others at the same time. "I am very grateful to have won the Neue Stadthalle Langen for the charity event! Together with the participants, we hopefully get one step closer to raising this enormous sum for Elliot's vital therapy."
The classes are varied and colorful. In addition to power-packed full-body workouts, there's also yoga and Pilates.
Strong by Zumba combines dead-weight, muscle-building, cardio and pylometric training. Guests move to original music specifically tuned to each move.
Tabata is HIIT (=High Intensity Interval Training) training, always alternating 20 seconds of high impact with ten seconds of rest in eight rounds. The short intense workouts à four minutes to improve overall cardiovascular system and endurance.
Another full-body workout is Zumba, a dance workout that involves moving to Latin and international rhythms.
Also using energetic music, Tai Bo combines elements of fitness and martial arts: techniques from Tae Kwon Do and kickboxing are used.
Quiet, controlled exercises are performed by Ramona Veras De Sigas and Sonja Bach: Yoga involves a series of mental and physical exercises combined with breathing, and is a philosophical teaching originating in India. Dynamic physical engagement is the focus.
In Pilates - a sport developed by Joseph H. Pilates - breathing is also coordinated with movements, but individual muscle groups are specifically activated, relaxed or stretched.
Stretching Mental relaxes the mind and stretches the body. Mental and fitness coach Jane Uhlig will take over for the final session.
So, bring your yoga mats, get fit, and stretch for all you're worth!
