Karen Lugo is back: the world-jazz duo Tevana invites the Mexican flamenco dancer and the "musical ambassador of Uzbekistan", the Doira virtuoso Abbos Kosimov, to their urban sound garden. High-energy flamenco dance meets jazzy Tevana compositions and masterful drumming, a fusion full of surprises!
Tevana means "garden of play and joy" in the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit. With breathtaking virtuosity and playful ease, carried by deep musicality and spontaneity, Ingvo Clauder (grand piano) and Claudio Spieler (percussion) groove in their urban sound garden. For an innovative collaboration, Duo Tevana invites internationally renowned flamenco dancer Karen Lugo from Mexico and the musical ambassador of Uzbekistan, Doira maestro Abbos Kosimov. The program will premiere in September 2016.
The 4 artists first met in May 2015 at the Colours of Percussion Festival in Freistadt, Austria. In a magical session the idea was born to bring a fusion of colorful Tevana compositions, high-energy Flamenco dance and virtuosic drumming to the stage. Their performance is intoxicating, transgressive and above all one thing: distinctly rhythmic. The art of improvisation and interaction between the musicians and the dancer is an impressive experience.
Karen Lugo starred in Carlos Saura's film "Flamenco, Flamenco". In June 2015, she wowed audiences at the ITF when she performed with Mujer Klórica. Abbos Kosimov is one of the most famous doira players, already performed with Kronos Quartet & tabla player Zakir Hussain.
