The Flying Theatre from Berlin, this time with a play for the younger audience. A colorful shadow play tells the story of a little boy who playfully discovers the world.
A man and a woman create a shadow figure. They put her together from parts, let her take her first steps, and invent an artificial language for her. They call her Matti. As soon as Matti is created, he wants to experience something. He asks the man to play with him. The man draws him a ball and they begin to play with it.
The ball turns into all sorts of things as they play: dot-dot-comma-stroke, and it's a face. Turn the dash into a zig-zag line and the face becomes a monster you can play scare with. Then the ball becomes a wheel on a car. Matti has an accident with it. The wheel flies out of the picture in a high arc. It finds itself again as an earring. When Matti pulls on it, the nose, eyes and ears start to move and the face gets completely out of order.
The play gradually develops into a crazy round of pictures. The ball falls into the water. Matti takes it as a diving bell and explores a whimsical underwater world with it. Rising from the water, the ball becomes a tethered balloon with which Matti flies through the air. And when he ends up tired from all the adventures, the ball serves as a bed in which he rocks himself to sleep.
The two players of the Flying Theatre bring the little boy to life. Rudolf Schmid, as the actor, enters into a relationship with the shadow figure. Matti speaks a language of his own invention. The two create a whole world full of adventures. They take the audience on a fantastic journey: surprising, loving, playful and whimsical with wonderful live music.
