In the third concert of his Focus Festival, Savall brings together musical traditions that are remarkably close, yet separated by a vast ocean: Savall traces the path of Spanish baroque music to the New World in his program "Folías criollas." In it, the baroque folia becomes synonymous with music of Andalusian origin, which has made the leap across the Atlantic and merged with African or Caribbean musical traditions in Latin America. Together with the Mexican Tembembe Ensamble Continuo, the musicians of Hespèrion XXI and the Capella Reial de Catalunya, Savall goes in search of traces in Latin America and sets out on the trail of old Hispania in the traditional music of Mexico and Colombia. A variety of traditional instruments as well as a tightly woven musical dialogue of baroque and folklore characterize the program, which entirely follows Savall's firm conviction: "Only musicians who have grown up with their respective cultures convey authenticity and credibility."
